About Daniel Danger

Daniel Danger is an illustrator and printmaker working out of New England. The son of an middle school art teacher married to a professional potter, Daniel was never going to be a mathematician or claims adjuster for a top rated insurance agency.

Amidst old houses dead from the fallout of urban sprawl, railway bridges asleep from neglect, and trees that engulf everything, his work attempts to remind you of something you may have said to someone, or something someone may have said to you; back in that time period thats just too far away to remember clearly, but not so long ago you forgot about it completely.

His memories and many of his friends are simply ghosts now, shaking him awake with mistimed alarm clocks and the sounds of a television from across the house. Documentation is key to get through the day. Things are always changing and its easy to lose yourself.

Police: Robbers steal, snort cremains

Police said they will continue to search Thursday for what is left of the cremated remains of a dead man and two dogs that a crew of robbers stole from a Florida house and then snorted -- mistakenly thinking it was cocaine.

cute and tasty: pantone chip cookies

Well hello, Awesome. I couldn’t think of a better way to start today than with these seriously amazing Pantone Chip Cookies from Kim Neill. Kim is a freelance designer and illustrator and she created these fabulous Pantone cookies using her collection of Pantone chips. Inspired by this fun Pantone tin ($28), Kim worked with Royal icing to create the exact colors and even broke out her luster dust to create metallic “chip” cookies. Once the icing set, she used an edible marker to add the Pantone numbers and voila! The perfect treat for an art opening, birthday party or even a child’s art class. Click here to check out Kim’s post and replicate the look yourself. Thanks to Nikko for the tip! xo, grace

Concentration of Power

According to recent financial data from the 3rd quarter of 2010, six banks represent 64% of GDP. These are JPMorgan, Bank of America, Citigroup, Wells Fargo, Goldman Sachs, and Morgan Stanley. In 2006, before the financial crisis, that number was 55%. And fifteen years ago, it was 17%.

Picture of the Day: Shanghai in 1990 and 2010

China's economy has grown at a rate of about 10 percent a year for the last two decades. Over those 20 years, Shanghai, the country's largest city, has experienced a remarkable transformation.

Check out this picture comparing the city in 1990 and 2010 (via Catherine Rampell):

Two years ago, the rumor (or statistic) was that one quarter of the world's cranes stood in Shanghai. When I first head the figure, I didn't believe it. Now that I see these pictures side by side, I don't find it so incredible.
