The Beat Boxed: Robyn

The Beat Boxed: Robyn

I searched through my entire iTunes library for the most played track of 2010 and I discovered it was Robyn‘s “Hang With Me” from Body Talk Pt. 2The Beat Boxed: Robyn. So you know I figured I had to do a Beat Boxed post about it because obviously I love it. She’s taking me on many bike rides, rollerblading adventures on the beach, hikes, road trips, commutes, has prepared me for many nights out, helped me see relationships clearly, all while being the most popstradamus pop star of them all. There’s something about her lyrics that although catchy but not a bit kitschy, have the depth that can pull up more emotion in a 4-minute bit than 3-hour chat with your girlfriend. Not to get too deep on you but she has this ability to bring out this strength and pure bliss in you as well. So with this being said check out the video for “Hang With Me” — my most played song of 2010:

Now as I translate Robyn’s music into an interior there are a couple things that pop into my head. One is a kick-ass boxing studio and the other is just a kick-ass dance studio. Not because I think she’s a fighter — I know she’s a lover — but because she is filled with just so much energy. My new obsession for the year is boxing…not sure if it was The Fighter or the old school boxer at my gym that wants to give me lessons, but this year I AM going to take a boxing lesson or two with some Robyn music blasting in my ears. So here it goes…ride your bike on up to the kick-ass Swedish-esque boxing studio, and get your power on in style, so you can go out and get your dance on!

Nook Coffee Table by David Pickett

Nook Coffee Table by David Pickett

David Pickett is a product design student studying at The Cleveland Institute of Art. He developed the Nook Coffee Table after being inspired by the idea a bookshelf crash landing into a coffee table creating a “4th leg.”

The integrated bookshelf acts as a balance for your heavy volumes of antiquity. The complex geometry of the design conveys an illusion of floating, in effect, enticing the viewer to investigate how the coffee table balances. The geometry also provides sufficient foot room on all four sides. The nook is large enough for books, magazines, laptops, and even your extra pillows! Constructed from soft maple hardwoods and finished in a natural Tung Oil.

Blub Lounge Club in Spain by Elia Felices Interiorismo

Blub Lounge Club in Spain by Elia Felices Interiorismo

The Blub Lounge Club is a restaurant-meets-club designed by Elia Felices Interiorismo. Located in Barecelona, Spain, the interior is inspired by the undersea world that won’t make you seasick. The lighting, shapes and colors used in the space reflects a colorful underwater world where we become the fish. Upon entering the club you are immediately greeted with algae-like organic shapes dripping from the ceiling and a mermaid made from a collage of plates, colored glass and bottle openers. The hanging plants break up the light and cast amorphous shadows just as in the ocean.

Despite mimicking the ocean, the space doesn’t feel cold. The RGB lighting helps bring an electric feeling to the space warming up the metal surfaces. The wooden tables, chairs, and barstools also add to this feeling.

Aside from a bar and dining spaces, there is a stage and a VIP area too making the space versatile. At the Blub Lounge Club, you can go from happy hour to the witching hour without changing venues.

Fine Chair by Olle Gustafsson

Fine Chair by Olle Gustafsson

Olle Gustafsson created the Fine chair as part of his BA degree project in interior architecture and furniture design at Konstfack, University College of Arts, Craft and Design in Stockholm, Sweden. According to the designer, the project was “developed around the Japanese word ‘ma’ which deals with void, time and space.” Gustaffson created two iterations of the Fine chair: one in ash and one in alder. The tips of the legs on the ash chair are clad with leather, and the alder chair in rubber.

Studio Trivetz by Modern-twist and Nervous System

Studio Trivetz by Modern twist and Nervous System

When I heard about this exciting collaboration between two of my favorite companies I couldn’t wait to spill the beans. Modern-twist, creator of unique modern tabletop textiles, and Nervous System, designers of math-meets-nature jewelry have collaborated on a new collection of trivets called Studio Trivetz.

These colorful trivets not only protect your table, but they interconnect so that you can place just about any size pot or pan on top. You could even use it as a table runner or placemat!

Each trivet is made of FDA approved food-grade silicone, heat resilient to 675 degrees and are skid and slip resistant; making it ideal for every surface. Similar to all items carried by Modern-twist, the trivet is 100% recyclable, non-porous and features a germ-free surface. In addition, all Modern-twist products are free of BPA, lead, latex, phthalates and other harsh chemicals.
